What to see in Edinburgh while you’re there for Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Enjoy the world’s largest arts festival which will take place in Edinburgh from 1st – 25th August.  With a range of comedy, cabaret, theatre productions, dance and operas there is certainly something for all tastes.  While you are in Edinburgh make the most of your visit… absorb the history, the nightlife and some fantastic attractions.  Here are 6 things that are not to be missed…

Climb a volcano
Head to Holyrood Park where you will find Salisbury Crags; 150 foot cliff faces that dominate Edinburgh’s skyline, and Duddingston Loch. It’s also home to the tallest of Edinburgh’s hills; Arthur’s Seat, a dormant volcano 251m above sea level.   Arthur’s Seat gives amazing views of the city and is home to one of four of Edinburgh’s 2000 year old hill forts.

Beaches
There are many beaches that you can explore from the city, one of the most beautiful is Belhaven in East Lothian.  It’s an award winning beach with sand dunes and a salt marsh.  It’s a great place for surfing, beach strolls and to catch a bit of sun (if weather permits!)

Grassmarket
The Grassmarket is made up of cute independent shops, cafes and summer markets.  It’s a great place to explore, shop and have a bite to eat.  With cobble stone streets and plenty going on it’s a hive of activity.

Gilmerton Cove
Explore secret chambers and underground passage ways that lie hidden beneath the south side of the city.  Gilmerton Cove is an archaeological mystery so it’s an interesting insight into times past.

Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is one of Edinburgh’s most popular attractions and is located in the heart of the city.  Well preserved, the castle sits high on a hill and has plenty to explore; from the prisons of war to the Stone of Destiny.

Nightlife
Edinburgh’s legendary nightlife is a must!  You might have a fair bit of this on your itinerary already if you are visiting the Fringe Festival – if not, make sure you take a look at what’s on.  From theatre productions to night clubs, you won’t be disappointed!
