Travelling With Your Smart Phone
A smart phone brings everything we need together in one tiny package when it comes to travelling. It has music, a camera, access to the internet, maps you name it, it has it. It is hard to imagine what life was like before smartphones came about, but it is now easier than it ever has been. However, one problem when travelling is whether your smartphone is going to actually work with the networks available. In most cases everything is fine and your phone will automatically connect to the networks available, but this isn’t the case for all countries as some operate on different types of connection technologies.
There are two universally accepted standards used when it comes to connectivity technologies – if you go to a country that isn’t the same as the technology your phone uses, it won’t work.
To avoid getting stuck in a foreign country without a working phone, follow these tips and you can ensure you don’t have to deal with the devastation of being deserted with no way of contacting people or getting online....
- There is GSM and CDMA. GSM can be found in many countries around the world whilst CDMA is less popular. Countries such as the US, Canada and China have great coverage of CDMA networks but many of the major providers right around the world opt to use the GSM network and this makes it far easier for those who want to travel around. Places such as Japan are slightly different and their network works differently to the others as theirs is far more advanced so there is a risk your phone won’t work there.
- There are a number of ways to get around this issue and obviously the first one is to make sure you have the right phone and if not then there is always the option of purchasing worldwide phone that will offer you coverage wherever you may go.
- Contact your phone will work and this can be done by contacting your provider. They will be able to tell you straight away but you may not know why it will work or why it won’t work and it is important to understand.
- There is always the option of using the phone over Wi-Fi and making calls and sending a message via an internet connection. Depending on where you are Wi-Fi might not be an option so you may have to use data on your phone plan - be careful though as data roaming costs can cost you thousands if you haven’t prepared!
- Traveling with a smartphone does not need to be a problem and there are many simple solutions that can make it a seamless transfer from your place of living to your destination.
